Tips For Making The Best Cherry Desserts

  • Choose fresh or frozen cherries when possible for brighter flavor and vivid color rather than canned. Sweet or sour varieties both work deliciously. Choose cherries that are plump, firm, and deeply colored.
  • If baking a cherry pie, you can pre-bake the crust to help prevent the bottom crust from getting soggy. Or use my fave tip I include in my cherry pie recipe.
  • Fresh cherries will release a lot of juice as they bake, so it’s important to thicken the filling to prevent it from being runny. You can do this by adding cornstarch or tapioca flour to the filling.
  • Use a 13 X 9 pan to maximize your recipes. It’s the perfect baking pan for potlucks and picnics.

Cherry Pie Recipes FAQs

Why is my Cherry Pie runny?

There are so many reasons why your cherry pie could be runny. It could mean that you are not using enough thickening agent to absorb the liquid released by the cherries as they bake. Another reason could be using over-ripe or juicy cherries, which can release more liquid during baking

Do I need to add thickener to my cherry pie filling?

Most recipes will include some kind of thickener, like cornstarch or tapioca flour, to prevent the filling from being too runny. However, depending on the type of cherries you use and how juicy they are, you may need to adjust the amount of thickener. Start with the amount suggested in the recipe and add more if needed.

What kind of crust should I use for my cherry pie?

Both double-crust and single-crust pies are delicious options. Double-crust offers a traditional look and more pastry to enjoy, while single-crust is quicker and easier to make. You can also use store-bought pie crust if you’re short on time, but homemade crust is worth trying at least once!

As we wrap up our exploration of cherry desserts, it’s clear that these delicious recipes are not just fun to create, but also contribute to a cozy meal, traditions, nostalgia, and the simple pleasures of life.

Whether enjoyed on a lazy Sunday afternoon, shared at a family gathering, or savored as a comforting treat during a quiet moment, these classic desserts have a way of bringing joy and warmth to any occasion.
