Homemade Ice Cream Sauce Trifecta | The Best Sundae Sauces Ever!
The only three homemade ice cream sauce recipes you will ever need.
These ice cream toppings would be great for ice cream sundaes or are delicious and simple to add to apple slices and other fruits as well. These are just a few of my favorite ways to create an easy recipe or two with simple ingredients.
Really! Salted Caramel, Delicious Chocolate, and Supreme Strawberry, as you can see make one awesome Banana Split!
Or what about a Tin Roof? That’s when you drizzle a huge slab of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, sprinkle with Spanish skinned salted peanuts, and rinse and repeat. You have to try it!
Who knew that adding chocolate syrup to a scoop of ice cream would create your latest obsession?
Easy Ice Cream Sauces to Make at Home
We have always used ice cream sauces โ the ones you buy at the grocery store, but we donโt any more! Besides, the flavour of fresh homemade sauces just doesnโt compare with the store-bought kind.

Spooning that thick delicious homemade ice cream sauce onto your ice cream, pancakes, waffles, and scrambled eggs โ you can put it on whatever your heart desires.
Some people even drizzle this on their ice coffee and hot cocoa, too!

These recipes make about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of sauce, so if you are feeding a crowd you may want to double up.
How to Store
Itโs always nice to make a fresh batch of homemade ice cream sauce and I find each of the three sauces keeps about a week to 10 days in the refrigerator.

What are the best way to store homemade chocolate sauce and other ice cream sauces?
I like to store mine in a glass jar. This is a simple way to have it stored in an airtight container which makes it easy to use when you’re ready.
How do I reheat this delicious caramel sauce and the other sauce recipes?
You can add the sauce back to a medium saucepan and heat on medium-high heat, or put some in a bowl and reheat in the microwave.
What is some other fun ice cream topping ideas?
That’s the best part about ice cream. You can add anything that you’d like. I think that whipping up an easy peanut butter ice cream topping would be delicious, or even a rich butterscotch sauce, too. (These will be on my radar to make soon!)
If you’re more of a fan of bittersweet chocolate then dark chocolate mint chips could be super delicious as well. The perfect topping is what you want it to be!
Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe
Ingredients needed to make homemade caramel sauce
- 1 cup dark brown sugar – well packed
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 tbsp. almond flavoured liqueur

How to make this caramel ice cream sauce recipe
(Prep time – about 30 minutes)
Step One: Mix the ingredients on the stovetop
In a medium-sized saucepan mix the brown sugar, butter, sea salt, and heavy cream and cook over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring often, but not vigorously.
As the caramel begins to thicken, cook for another 2 minutes
Step Two: Remove from heat
Remove from heat and add the liqueur
Step Three: Add back to the stovetop
Return to the stove and cook for another 2 minutes
Step Four: Remove from heat
Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes
Step Five: Store
Pour into glass jars for storage
Tip: I poured the sauce into a 2 cup measuring cup and used that to pour it into my little jars.

Chocolate Sauce Recipe (Lee Lee’s Famous Chocolate Sauce Recipe – food.com)
Ingredients to make hot fudge sauce
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2-2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup water ( more or less, as needed to make a stirrable consistency)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
How to Make Chocolate Sauce
(prep time total – 15 minutes)

Step One: Mix the ingredients
Combine sugar, cocoa, and salt in a small saucepan.
Step Two: Add water
Add enough water to make stirrable consistency.
Step Three: Add butter
Add butter to the cocoa mixture.
Step Four: Heat
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
Allow boiling for 1 minute, stirring.
Step Five: Remove from heat
Remove from heat.
Step Six: Add vanilla
Add vanilla.
Serve warm over ice cream.
Supreme Strawberry Ice Cream Sauce
Ingredients to make a strawberry sauce
- 1 cup of mashed strawberries
- 3/4 cup of water
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 3 tbsp. cornstarch
- 4 cups of sliced strawberries
- 1/4 cup of maple syrup
Directions to make Homemade Fresh Strawberry Sauce
Total prep time is about 30 minutes
Step One: Cook the strawberries
Cook the mashed strawberries in the water, bring to a boil then strain into a measuring cup. Add enough water to make one cup.
Step Two: Add ingredients
Combine the sugar, cornstarch, and juice and stir quickly, bring to a boil and then cook for about 2 minutes.
Step Three: Stir
Remove from heat and stir in the strawberries.
