Expert Apple Pie Bread tips

This is one of those apple recipes that is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. If you really want to impress them, follow these expert tips, and your Apple Pie Bread will be perfect every time.

  • Be careful not to overmix your ingredients – Like muffins, quick breads need a light hand. It’s ok to use an electric mixer to cream sugar, butter, and eggs, but stir the flour and baking powder in by hand until mostly blended.
  • Use a  well-greased loaf pan and line it with aluminum foil so it’s easy to get this yummy bread out of the pan!
  • You can use dark or light brown sugar. Dark brown sugar has more molasses in it, and demerara brown sugar has larger grains, so it’s crunchier in baking – I like to use it for toppings, especially in Apple Crisp or Dutch Apple Pie.
  • If you can wait, let your apple bread cool on a wire rack before you slice it.
  • Some supermarkets sell apple pie spice. Add a little to your mixture to take your bread up a notch. If you can’t find it – try adding a teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

FAQs

How should I store apple pie bread?

Now, let’s talk about storing your precious apple pie bread. If you manage to resist devouring it all at once, you’ll want to keep it fresh for as long as possible. To do that, make sure it has cooled completely before storing it.

You can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you want to extend its shelf life, pop it in the refrigerator for up to a week in an airtight container.

Just remember to bring it back to room temperature or give it a quick warm-up in the oven before indulging again. Trust me, the flavors will thank you!

Can I use fresh apples?

Absolutely! If you can’t get a hold of a can of apple pie filling, fresh apples will work, though they’ll take a bit more time to prep.

Whether you’re using red or green apples, make sure to peel, core, and chop them into small, bite-sized pieces. Make sure your diced apples are small – use a sharp knife.

If you like, you could also use grated apples. This way, they’ll spread evenly throughout the bread, ensuring every slice has that amazing apple goodness.

You need a little better instructions. Do you leave in the pan until cool? Toothpick test for doneness?

Judy Kahansky

Monday 12th of December 2022

Hi Cheryl, yes you can use a toothpick to make sure the centre is cooked and leave the bread on a wire rack to cool for a bit. If you can wait that long. :)

The instructions for the apple pie bread does not state how the milk is incorporated.

Hi Maria! You are so right. It should go in with the other wet ingredients - the egg and vanilla. I'll fix that right now!
